Talkshow the Carousel

Here is an idea for a talk show. The host is seated behind a small desk and in front of him, there is a guest sitting in a segment of a giant rotating disc. Only that segment, resembling a pizza slice, is visible to the audience. The segment has sound-proof walls.

The first guest is typically a random person from the street, who is asked her or his opinion about a topic. The host asks the guest to be as precise as possible, and when the guest has exhausted all explanatory power, the host, ignoring a slur of scatological comments,  announces:

“It is now time to move to the next intellectual level.”

Whereupon the carousel turns until the next segment is in front of the host’s desk. The next guest is a self-proclaimed pundit, who can explain the situation on a somewhat higher level. The host asks difficult questions until the pundit ‘snaps’ into foul-mouthing. The host then says:

“It is now time to move to the next intellectual level.”

A university professor appears, who gives an overview of the intellectual underpinnings. The host indulges her or him until it is time to cut through the thickest part of the philosophical wood. The host then proclaims:

“It is now time to move to the next intellectual level.”

The carousel turns once more until Noam Chomsky is in clear view.
